I have just brought and installed a DVD drive, however there was no software that came with it to burn etc. I have some software for my old sony drive but obvisully that aint gonna work. I need some software to burn to the DVD both Data and DVD video etc.

It needs to be free software and also fairly small download as im only on 56k :(

Also i have some *.avi files that i have made from soem DV footage that i have, how can i alter that to make it work on the DVD player downstairs linked up to the tv?

Cheers

The recording software should still work unless it is specifically looking Sony... Unless you are trying to say you had like say a CD/RW and now you have a DVD/CD/CD-RW drive...

yeah it dont detect the drive, coz the sony was a cd/rw drive but if replaced it with a pioneer DVD-109 drive that does CD and DVD burns. So the sony software is no good on my system now, it just dont detect the drives

Well if it didnt have a default driver for your DVD burner then I hate to say it slow connection or not you will have to download the driver and install it...

If you have a fast connection at work use a CD, reinstall the other drive if you have to copy the info to your HD and run it from there...

OR.. if the file is small enough copy it to a floppy...

well windows can see it, however when i try and burn using windows it comes up with a error msg. i think ill just download the 11mg Nero trial and try that first

Aha, so windows does Recognize your drive you just cant burn with it... got ya...

well simply enter your model number into the google search bar and DL the latetst drivers, also, if you bouthg the burner from an on-line store and it wasnt OEM, then they should have provided you with some kind of software package, now if it was oem, then you need to do just like you suggested. I would still DL the newest driver and install it to avoid any bugs they have fixed since your burner first got released...

If I helped you in any way.. you know what to do....

Before you try installing any software got to:
control panel / add/remove software and delete the old sony burning software.

Then:
control panel / device manager / dvd/cd-rom drives

and uninstall any optical drives that show up including the new one. Then reboot and follow the "found new hardware instructions". That will get rid any old junk from the sony.

Now try and burn with windows. If that doesn't work (or even if it does) get the software dreamliner mentioned in the post above.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
