This isn't the first time but when i am download software such as Fedora, Suse, ..... what have you whether via bit torrent, or http, or ftp ... the downloads makes its way to the 50 MB downloaded then my internet craps out.... connection lost. The only way to get back on the internet is for me to go restart the router for 10 secs..... Was wondering if anyone knows away around this stupid hassle.

i have had an issue with the cable modem being the fault - power levels were a little bit out

Does this happen if the router is not connected?
If so you might want to check for a router firmware upgrade.
