Doom2 problem

I have a copy of Doom2. How to run it in XP? Secondly I tried to run it but the sound gradually degrades & brings the game to a grinding halt. I have a Yamaha sound card. Can any1 plz send the config settings for my sound card for Doom?

first, if you have problems running the game, make sure all your drivers are updated.

second, if the drivers dont fix the problem, switch the compatibility mode to run doom2 under windows 95 or windows 98 mode.
