Much like with a floppy, if it isn't working anymore and there's nothing you can see visably wrong with it; probably best to just throw it out. Even if you could find a way to get it working per chance; would it continue to work after you got something important on it? That would be a risk taken.

If it's cheap, probably best to just get another, and be done with it...
