when running Disk CleanUp from windows xp, starts good but suddenly it gets stuck in the compress old files checking....i gave it time but it just doesn´t get through.....it was working correct but this happend the last time i ran disk cleanup.....any suggestions?

not to sound stupid(though i usually do), but how much time did you give it? because sometimes mine compresses the old files for 5 minutes before it continues on.
but then again, i have a lot of big files that are being compressed, plus i only have about 300 megs left on my hdd.

Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
Locate and then click the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VolumeCaches\Compress Old Files
On the Edit menu, click Delete.
When prompted to "Confirm Key Delete," click Yes.
Quit Registry Editor

i gave it like 1 hour....didn´t go on......
i did what you said bluzeboy and it worked!.....but what exactly i did??...what does this tweak did??

it just resets it ,you might have to do it again.
i do mine about every 3 mo. or so.

That tweak told disk cleanup not to look for old files to compress.

If you don't compress files anyway this is a useful setting.

Had the same prob - I have 120GB space and don't use compress any more.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
