Disable pending reboots

How would I disable a pending reboot (and possibly manually perform any pending file/registry operations, if any) without actually rebooting? Is there someplace in the registry I need to be looking? I want to run an installer, but can't reboot the machine at the moment, but the installer won't run due to a pending reboot from a previous uninstall of an unrelated program.

Thanks :p

Never mind, I found it, I'll post where it is for anyone else that's curious.

The registry path is:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager

and the key with the interesting stuff is PendingFileOperations.

I don't know if this applies to other than WinXP though, though I wouldn't be surprised if it did for Win2k and Win2k3.

Ooh, interesting. Thanks for posting your find. I didn't know this myself, and I'm sure not many people do, so it's useful for future reference.
:)

Thread Moved to Operating Systems

I have talked about it here at NTFS before, somewhere.

Yes it does apply to XP, all NT based OSes indeed support this. Its generally used during installation scripts but is also useful to replace in use files.

Generally you will not want to interfere with the process, if a pending operation is waiting don't just remove it, reboot and clear the item so that the process can complete properly.

Due to the fact the operations are all held under the one entry you may find it easier to use the tool provided rather than manually editing the value data if multiple operations are pending.

The tool to automatically view, add and remove operations for this function is here.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
