Is there any way to stop Explorer "reading" avi files when I click them, so I can copy/move/delete them immediately instead of waitng for explorer to (I assume) read the entire file to get it's properties?

What do you mean reading them, actually playing them. Playing them takes a double click.

I've got that too. Especially when the view is in Details. Explorer reads all movies to get their properties such as duration and resolution. The CPU goes up to 100% everytime.

I've removed the duration and resolution tabs, but the CPU still goes to 100% when I have a window with those AVIs open, just not as long as it used to be. :D It's better than nothing. :p

1. Open up regedit
2. Goto HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\.avi\shellex\PropertyHandler
3. Delete the "Default" value which should be "{87D62D94-71B3-4b9a-9489-5FE6850DC73E}"

always backup reg first

ooh, nice speedups on handling AVIs :p Cheers :p

*goes to "modify" the entries for other problematic extensions* :)

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
