direct x problems

I have a problem with a GeForce4 Ti4200, directx games always crash. I can play open gl games fine and they play for a long time, which indicates to me that they are fine. But when i tried to load a directx game, it would play for 5 minutes, then crash the entire system. any ideas?

try updating to the newest version of direct x. if you are trying to play games like GTA 3, you'll definitely need to update otherwise you'll run into all kinds of problems.
