This is for all you dell people*cough**Sazar* :p I was wondering what kind of cpus I should be looking at for my 9100, I have had it almost a year and I want to upgrade the cpu. Does it use a standard P4? My friend told me to go with the northwood core and not the prescott. Is this a good idea? Thanks for the help

Nice find net. Do you know if those #'s are dell's or that sites?

I've had that site bookmarked ever since I got my notebook. ;)
And yes, those are Dell's part numbers.

I will dbl check for you on this component... the 9100 was EOL when I started working there...

it used a p4 core and had an intel 865PE chipset...

IIRC it supported prescott out of the box but I would dbl check about that... might need a bios revision but the chipset SHOULD support prescott's...

northwood's clock for clock v/s the first gen prescott's were a little faster and ran a lot cooler... in that sense it is a slightly better product but the prescotts are a newer tech and support more instructions...

depending on what core you have in your system now, it might be more advisable to add to the memory rather than the processor... of course that also depends on what you intend to use the notebook for :)

Thank for doing that for me Sazar! Right now I have the 2.8Ghz Prescott w/ HT. I am trying to pick a cpu upgrade or a graphocs upgrade(to the 9800 Pro). I have been reading around and the 9800 is supposed to be a huge difference. So all I need to do is decide on which to upgrade :p. My 9100 has a gig of ram in it already, I thought anymore than that would just be stupid for a laptop :p. All I really do on it is writing/games anyway. Thanks again for your help!

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
