Need a bit of help here... I have an HP P4 2.93 computer with 512mb of DDR2 "3200" ram. Is it possible for me to remove the (2 sticks of 256mb) 3200 ram and replace it with 2 sticks of 512 DDR2 "4200" ram? Thanks.

It should work but might slow down to the speed of 3200.(I think I am correct with ddr2) Mobo Specs?

If the specs you linked to are correct, you should have 4 memory slots. Your best bet is to install all 4 sticks, to get a total of 1.5 GB of RAM. The faster chips will slow down to the DDR2 3200, but you'll have more physical RAM.

Yes, you can put 2 sticks of 4200 DDR2 into that MB in place of the existing RAM. It should auto detect the new RAM and run them at the higher speed.

Your memory spec's:
4 x 240-pin DIMM sockets support unbuffered non-ECC 4 GB 533/400 MHZ DDR2 memory modules

The "400" is 3200 RAM the "533" is 4200 RAM. 400/533 refers to clock speed, the 3200/4200 refers to memory bandwith. They are saying the same thing.

If you mix 3200 and 4200 they will all run at the slowest speed.

Don't expect a big speed increase from the faster RAM. It usually has slower refresh timings and will not be running synchronously with the processor FSB if the processor is 800 mhz and the ram is 533.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?

Impressed you have kept this alive this long EP! So many sites have come and gone. :(

Just did some crude math and I apparently joined almost 18yrs ago, how is that possible???
