is it possible to have the task bar to read the time and the date in the single bar view. thanks in advance.

No way that I know of other than using
Tclock or TClockEx
Both work on XP, but fit best in classic theme.

You can by increasing the height on the taskbar. Single row for just time/2 high for Time and day of week/3 high for time, day of week, and date.

Granted, depending on the skin you are using, you may be able to skip the middle one and the 3 high one ends up being only 2 high for the requirement.
