OMFG!!!!! I have just heard that about 20 trucks carrying Cruise Missiles to the B-52 bombers passed through my town!!!!! Cool.... but i hpoe thats the closest i ever get to them

Blimey!

Dont be surprised if more come thru that way!

Zonne- me thinks you or whoever told you that must be smoking something funny.

Where are they coming from?? Sure they are stored somewhere in the UK - just for us Yanks to use on the B52s if we happen to deploy the B52s to Fairford!

There was rumors in the early 70's they had nukes (certainly not cruise missles) stored at RAF Schulthorpe - but that had never been verified.

How much of an escort (armed and probably armoured) do you think would be required to move a cruise missle on a truck thru the English countryside?

Nice rumor - but I am LMFO at it!
:p :p

they're just taking them across to iraq to shoot down more RAF fighter planes... :(

well british aerospace (dont know if they exist ne more) make and store the missiles, they get taken from there to RAF fairford, get put on B-52s, they fly off 4 hours later iraq is a fire town.

it is true that there are convoys of police and lorrys carrying missiles. and may well have passed through your town:cool:

british aerospace do still exist, I only know because my dad is an executive there :p

These are useless until the guidance systems and warheads are in place. These are not usually stored at the same location as the actual missile body. The guidance systems are a small collection of “pcb plug-in” modules, the warhead usually a 1000lb bomb but not necessarily as they have been used for many different things. If you see flat bed trucks which normally carry four or five of these there will be no warhead or guidance systems in place as these are only added and armed just before loading. No security is usually used in the transportation of these objects in peacetime.

Is that right that these cruise missiles cost like £1,000,000 each?

Skazz

Yup, and I imagine that 1500 of these have now been launched.

Maybe they should give 1500 x £1,000,000 in a lottery :) save a war and make 1500 people very happy :)

i knew someone that worked for british aerospace. they said each missile has a room full of paperwork... and you talk about burocracy.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
