crossover cable network?

hello.
i have two computers using winXP Pro. i want to share folders and archives...and maybe , my internet conection.... y bougth a crossover cable and i have trying to conect bouth computers...but i really need help....i'm newbie in this..
can anyone tell me "step-by-step" how to make my home network?

Scroll down to this bit "Now That you have your cabling set up, lets configure the PCs. Windows XP PCs use the TCP/IP Protocol for file sharing, as well as internet access." as the first half of the guides is over the top and rambles on like a cisco site.

Install each Network card in the PC's - plug the cable in and follow the guide.

If you have any problems , post and i will try to help

1394 network

if ya got firewire[1394]....you got it made. just plug the two puters
together[w/firewire] and run the home network setup thangy.
beats buyin two nic cards anyhoooo,now you can hook up bunch of other stuff thats 1394
