Creative Blaster V92 PCI Modem DI5633

After many days of trying to isolate the cause of frequent random freezes on my new home built system, I have concluded that it is caused by hardware or driver problems with Creative Blaster V92 PCI Modem DI5633. When I remove the modem and uninstall the drivers in device manager, the freeze problem goes away.
Has anyone here had a similar experience? The newest drivers on the Blaster Site are from 11/2001 and when I installed them, I got the XP warning about non windows approved software. The blaster site claims the drivers are for XP. I left a lengthy message there for their tech support, but would appreciate any input from you guys.

I had the same exact modem. That hardware is junk, or at least with windows XP. I replaced it with a regular generic pci card modem, and everything worked fine ( then I got cable )

Dude, toss that modem.

Go for something that is manufactured by a specialist Co. like
Netcomm, or Swann, 3Com, Aztech, etc.

Stay away from resellers like creative and HP who only resell other brands as their own.
External is better than PCI if you don't mind the plugpack , and stay away from USB versions coz they're nothing but trouble on XP!!!!!!!

You really should check out any devices you may like, by the company's web site for support on driver updates on each operating system and stuff like that coz you don't wanna have the same trouble in a couple of years when you upgrade your OS again.
More importantly check on as many forums as you can for brands that do give trouble, there are modem dedicated sites.
