i bought a new soundcard today "Creative S/B Live Player 5.1 Card" and i cant get it to work.this is what comes up when i try to install it:

"cannot install this software

there was a problem installing this hardware

multimedia audio controller

an error occured during the installation of this device

the data is invalid"

and it says the same for the "IEEE 1394 controller/pci input device"

anyone got any ideas as to how i can fix this?

Try getting the drivers from the site or do like me and get a turtle beach santa cruz. Creative is all headaches to me.

i downloaded an update driver and your supposed to run this after you have already installed the cd that came with the soundcard which i already did so i try to install this update and it wont let me saying that i need to install the cd first.what a nightmare!

creative drivers are a headache and they are poorly written. unistall the drivers from device manager and then reboot, letting windows hardware wizard search for the drivers at startup. be sure to have the creative driver cd in the cd drive when doing this. XP will search your drivers and then run the update patch you downloaded. that was the only way I could make my audigy gamer inatallation work out.

yea,
or you can do it the hard way

put in the cd
right clik and hit 'explore' run setup for the drivers only(no demos, players, etc)...if that duznt work....you sit in a corner and cry

ive been crying all afternoon since i got the damn card.im downloading the 377mb upgrade.

Here is a definite solution :

Why do I get the message "data is invalid" when installing a device driver under WindowsXP?

This error appears to be due to a protection problem in the Windows registry and can occur with a variety of drivers (sound cards and SCSI drivers have been reported). To fix this problem, go to Start, Run... and type "regedit" without the quotes to run the Registry Editor. Navigate to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\ENUM\PCI

and you will see a number of keys of the form "VEN_xxxx", where xxxx are strings like "1102&DEV_0004&SUBSYS_00011103&REV_04". Under each of these folders will be another folder with a long numerical name. Open each folder and look for the "DeviceDesc" which matches the hardware you are trying to install. Right Click on the "VEN_xxxx" for that device and select 'Permissions' and then tick "Allow" for "Full Control". Close Regedit and then continue with the installation of your device.

Your message header says Creative Audigy sound card but your message says S/B Live 5.1 sound card. They're 2 different cards?

As waldo pointed out. make sure you haev the right CD for the card. If the CD says Audigy and you have a SB Live 5.1 you will have problems.

it is an audigy card, typing error my mistake.my problem is sorted out thanks for all your help.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
