CPU problem

I just installed a new heatsink on my CPU since then, my computer detect the CPU as an Athlon XP 1800, at first, it was a Athlon XP 2400. I want to know why it isn't seeing my CPU as a 2400 and what to do to put it right.

My motherboard is an Asus A7N8X-DX and the new heatsink is a Thermaltake Volcano 9. The old heatsink was the one coming with the CPU.

Don't panic I think all you have to do is go to the bios & change it from 100 to 133. Someone will be able to explain better than me.

It sound like your front side bus is set to the wrong speed. goto into your Bios and look for a front side bus setting and make sure it is set to 133

Thanks a lot guys, your though was right, my CPU is running at normal speed again :)

Thanks again

yah don't fret it m8... good to know its back up...

what happens with a lot of the mobo makers is they set their bios by default to 100mhz just in case you are using the older athlon products that topped @ 100mhz fsb... so that when you drop the cpu in... you don't fry it on bootup... :) thats all...

Your FSB (Front side bus) can be either 100 Mhz or 133Mhz together with your multiplier of 18 (set from Mobo).
If FSb is set to 100, and multiplier is 18, this shows CPU as1.8 Ghz.
If FSB is set to 133 Mhz and 18 times this shows 2.394 Ghz (2.4Ghz) which is correct.

An Athlon 2400XP doesn't run at 2.4 ghz so his would say something different. But if he fixed it, o well.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
