Counter-strike + TNT2 Aladdin

Hi again!

I have a TNT2 Aladdin onboard grahpics chip. I have 256mb SDRAM, and a celeron 1000mhz cpu, and i've shared 32mb of memory (the max it lets me), and the grahpics apature size is 64mb. My question is this:

I'm getting about 15fps in counter-strike while playing in 640x480 with OpenGL. I believe I have the newest drivers. I am wondering if anybody has used these before and can help me get a better result. This doesn't seem right for this computer :|

(picture attached is a screenshot of the game showing the fps)

Yep that sounds way too low. Have you tried running with D3D instead of OpenGL?

yea, i'm thinking/hoping it's a driver problem because it's even worse in D3D and software!

i had the game running at 60fps on a matrox g200 in combo with a voodoo2 card. so i'm not sure whats up with your computer?

maybe its time u got a gfx card that isn't onboard, it would help.

Syrus, the point is, i can't afford one! I could get a PCI card, but that has two downfalls; PCI is crap, compared to AGP, and b) When I can afford to upgrade this board ill be getting an AGP one anyway.

The board has no AGP slot.

This is why i'm wondering what the heck is happening with the onboard one. It surley should be working better than it is.

only thing I can think of is a combo of celerons lower graphics processing capability along with a PCI slot's limitations...

try swinging the card to another PCi slot... my card gives me between 12-15 itself :) and I am running on a system less than half as powerful as yours...

check out the whole deal with the slots... switch em around and see if it helps... one of my pci slots was fujed up... and gave me even lower than my 12-15 fps :)

check it out and see if it helps...

otherwise there are a whole bunch of CS tweak programs that will turn of various textures to speed up your game...

g.luck dood, I know how it feels to play with fyjed up fps on CS...

:D

hmm.. it's onboard, so I cannot do that :(! My motherboard is a PC133 M754LMR+. Which comes with onboard video (ewww), sound, modem and LAN.

Anyone else have any ideas?

:( ok... I Thought you said you had a PCI vid card... my bad...

can't think of anything right now...

try messing with bios, updating drivers blah blah blah... and see if that helps...

or do as I did... hang off playing till you get your new system in place... it sucks ballacks but I have no choice... I did not want to get any more frustrated than I was...

:(

g.luck mate..

with spare parts, a friend and i put together a 500mhz celeron with a 16mb tnt (not even tnt2) and get between 40-70fps at 640x480. donor lan rig.

make sure you don't have any programs using cpu time. go to task manger and check your processes... make sure "system idle" is at least 95 when idle. if not, find the processes that are using your cpu and fix/get rid of them.

simple fix, so sorry if you've tried it. :)

What driver version are you running for your vid-card?

And did you install the uptodate drivers for your Mobo? ( big diff if you have everything onboard)

something definitly has to be wrong. my old system was an hp with onboard video. it sucked.
I

500 MHZ Celeron
11 MB onboard video
96 Meg of ram

However I consistently got 30+ fps on this system on counter strike in open gl at 800 X 600. So I dunno what your problem is. Do like the others said and try to move around some of your pci cards and see if that helps. also try to update the chipset drivers for your mobo if you can.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?

Impressed you have kept this alive this long EP! So many sites have come and gone. :(

Just did some crude math and I apparently joined almost 18yrs ago, how is that possible???
