Hey. I'm about to upgrade my system and was looking at this ram:

CORSAIR MEMORY XMS Extreme Memory Speed Series 512MB 32MX8 PC- 3500C2 With Platinum - Silver Heat Spreader.
Specifications:
Speed 434MHz
Organization 64M x 64
CAS Latency 2-3-3-7-T1
Memory type DDR
Part number: CMX512-3500C2PT

I'm probably gonna buy an Asus P4PE mobo and was wondering if I would be able to put the PC3500 Corsair on this mobo that is rated for DDR2700, and tweak the mobo to get it to run the ram at PC3500 speeds?

Here is the motherboards specs:

Specifications:
Supported CPU: P4 Socket 478 1.4 GHz ~ 2.53+ GHz
Chipset: Intel 845PE
FSB: 533 / 400 MHz
RAM: 3 x184-pin DDR333 PC2700/PC2100/ PC1600Max 2GB
IDE RAID: Onboard IDE RAID Support(Controller)
IDE: 2 x UltraDMA 100/66/33
Serial ATA
Slots: 1 x AGP 4X 6 x PCI
Ports: 1x LPT, 2x COM, 2x PS/2, 1x RJ45, 1x 1394,4x USB2.0 and Audio Ports
Onboard Audio: ADI1980 6-channel CODEC
Onboard LAN: BroadCom® 10/100 Mbps
Onboard Firewire: IEEE1394 interface

It will probably run, but I'm not sure you can run it at PC3500 speeds. Maybe you can overclock the whole thing that much, but I'm unsure.

Like Zedric said, it will probably work. But most likely, your CMOS will only have the option to run it at 166, which would make it 333 MHz.

It should work, but as said above, it isnt likely to run at its full speed.
It might be good for possible later upgrades, but I would probably get PC2700 RAM and save my money.

I'll probably get pc3200 and set it on fast timings.

yah its going to be bottlenecked.. by the cpu methinks :)

your actual fsb is 133 for the cpu... and to get optimum performance you should aim to run the cpu and ddr @ the same frequency... as in the new cpu's from amd.. ddr2700 with a 333fsb is synched perfectly @ 166mhz...

for 533fsb it will be synched perfectly with ddr2100... or can oc it for ddr2400 or perhaps even 2700... going for 3500 speeds is a little wishful... is that even jedec approved ? lol...

/me goes looking for info...

to answer your question... you can use the mem probably.. but it will be bottlenecked by your setup... even with tweaks...

I am debaiting on waiting for the new dual channel DDR chipsets. That will double the bandwidth.

dunno bout doubling :)

but certainly on paper it is faster and initial benches duplicates that...

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?

Impressed you have kept this alive this long EP! So many sites have come and gone. :(

Just did some crude math and I apparently joined almost 18yrs ago, how is that possible???
