corrupt file

(yes, Lonman, this is after I flashed bios and highpoint!!)
Just after the blue flashing lights on boot, just as the 'welcome' should appear, I get: Stop c0000218 {RegistryFile Failure} System Root\System32\config\Software. Its log or alternative file is corrupt, absent, or not writable.
This stops the boot, system reboots, gets to this point and reboots again and again.
I can't enter safe mode or any other option.
The only thing I can figure to do is total reinstall (I've done approx 10 in the last 3 days).
Here is what was in:
abit kt7a-raid bios 4a (or 64)
highpoint bios and driver 200919
creative 52x master on ide 1
yamaha 16x10x40 master on ide2
lynksys nc100 network card
40g hd master on raid ide3
384 meg pc150c2 ram
nero
all xp updates
Any ideas and how can I fix without reinstall if it hits again?

Thanks again Lonman.
This should be very helpful in recovery. Now I hope I can determine what is causing the problem to begin with.
I have a full legal copy of xp pro, so I do not think that is the problem.
I now plan on installing one thing at a time, very slowly, and seeing if I can catch the guilty software/hardware causing the corruption.
If anyone has any ideas, please jump in.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
