Hi all, it’s been a while!
I have recently bought off eBay a DFI Lanparty Ultra II B (nforce 2 ultra) mainboard, as I thought at the time my ASUS board was fried. I have fitted the DFI board as it has 4 SATA ports, and hooked up all of my hardware being; two DVD drives, a geforce 6800GS, 3 sata hard disks, barton 2500+ and 1gig of geil ddr. Unfortunately the machine kept freezing, so I rebuilt it double checking temperatures (CPU is sub 40ºC and mainboard is about 25º), then formatted my drive to try reinstalling windows XP. Since then every time I have tried to install windows it has locked up at different points, despite me trying different serial ata drivers (it’s a Sil3114), different bioses and different settings. What’s worse is it does not freeze at one specific point it just seems to be random. I have tried running my hard drives diagnostic tools but that just causes the system to restart, (the tool/drive is fine on my asus board).
My current line of thinking is there is something wrong with the Sil3114 raid controller.
Does anybody have any ideas? This is driving me crazy and any help will be much appreciated
Many thanks
IJ
