Hey everybody

Windows XP compressed some of my old files after I chose the Disk Cleanup.

Now, the compressed files are colored Blue.

I wanted to know,
If I burn them now on CD for Backup, will they work on ANY computer?

Or are they suitable for only some versions of Windows?

Is there a way to Un-Compress them?

Please help..

They will only stay compressed when on an NTFS formatted drive. Burning them to a CD or moving them to any local non-NTFS volume will decompress them.

To uncompress the files either use the compact /u command from a command window. You can use wildcards there (compact /u *.*).
Or select one or several files then right click > properties > attributes - advanced > uncheck "compress contents to save disc space".
Copying (not moving) the file to another location also removes the compression.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
