Compatible Cat-5 Cables

If my cable modem works for 10 Base T cables, can I use a 100 Base T cable anyway, even if it won't increase speed?

Basically 10 Base t cables use two pair of standard cat 3 cabling or better ( cat 5). 100 Base tx uses two pairs of standard cat 5 or better ( type 1 stp ) as well. So the answer is yes. The difference is in the physical layer standards used by either media dependent sublayers.

Cat 3 cables can still run at 100mbps....and cat 5 cables can run at 10mbps...

Yea, the type of cable doesnt matter, althought the speed will not increase.
