First, you're right =) at least post this kinda stuff in Hardware in the future =) But it depends on which model of laptop you have. Your best bet is look for the manuals for your model on compaq's support site (I think it's support.compaq.com). Chances are you've a small door on the bottom with four screws which you remove and then pull up one side of the drive (that doesn't plug into the motherboard) and slide it away from the motherboard. At least that's how every Toshiba, Gateway and IBM laptop I've encountered came out. (Oh, an I'm gonna move this to Hardware, fyi)
