When i leave my computer alone for 10 seconds, my systen hd starts to spin and make a lot of noise. The only application i can see getting active is the cidaemon.exe file.

It has been like this for a couple of days now, anyone got a clue on what it is and what it does??

Thanks alot folk´s.

cidaemon.exe is a service that runs when you use the indexing service. It indexes all the files on your harddrive during idle time (after 10 seconds of inactivity) so that when you search for a file it will come up with results a lot faster than without the indexing service.
If you want to disable the service, open "My Computer", right-click each hard disk drive and on the "General" tab uncheck the Indexing Service.

Thanks alot cruiser78

I uninstalled the indexing service from add remove windows programs, and now everything is quiet again and no problems with the speed.

Sorry for posting in the wrong forum.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
