Sounds like one of your usb device drivers have failed.

Try unplugging your usb device(s) rebooting and windows should load up.

Then replug in your usb device(s) and if any driver files are corrupt, XP should ask for the drivers.

yes you are right .its the umax astraslim scanner that is causing the problem.the drivers that was installed are for win98.which will work in xp.but not been tested by windows xp.but i installed them anyway.anyway around this problem.thanks mates
