Im kinda lost...whats the difference from P4 and amd64(i know 64 bit ha haha) but in a performance way

I know this isnt the most technical answer, bu generalyy AMD performs better in video games and pentium 4 has the upper hand in media encoding and applications. AMD is also cheaper, runs cooler and consumes less power, the pentium 4 is considered a power hog and runs quite hot. However the pentium M, although quite expensive, is a great cpu i think it out performs the pentium 4. Not sure about the celeron m tho.

I always thought AMD ran hotter then P4's
A pentium m 1.4 run fast as a 2.6 p4.

Intel celeron m/celeron D and AMD Sempron cpus both have a smaller cache and perform a lot slower compared to the Intel Pentium/AMD Athlon cpus, this is because celeron M/D are budget processors aimed at those who don't have a lot to spend on a computer and require a machine that runs the most basic of applications such as word processing and internet browser.

Your mixing laptop and desktop chips.

Intel has the edge in the laptop market with better heat/performance.
AMDhas better heat/performance in the desktop chips.

People are putting laptop chips in desktop PCs for the ehat advantage but they are slower and more expensive.

Both Intel and AMD have 64 BIT CPUs and dual core CPUs.

Both companies are coming out with new CPU lines later this year so the who's cooler / faster may change then. The new CPUs use different sockets and different memory than what we use now.

If you want to pay more you can buy AMD Opteron chips that are 64 BIT, run cooler, overclock better and use the same MB sockets as the AMD 64 line.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
