cdrw dvd drive problem

This concerns both drives. whenever I load a cd or dvd into the drives the computer does'nt see them so I have to leave the cd in and re-start the computer for the cd to be recognized. And when I update my office2000 and the computer asks for the installation cd I put it in and press go and the computer automatically re-starts. This is really frustrating.

what brand are your cd drives? that's importtant you know. check the microsoft HCL which is on their website.

I have pioneer dvd and aopen 24x cdrw

did you check the HCL (hardware compatibility list)? if its listed and it still won't work, the best thing to do is reinstall. it works for almost all unusual problems.
