CD-drive slowdown.

Is there any way to prevent the mega-slowdown I experience when reading from my second CD-drive?

A friend of mine also have 2 drives, not the same vendor as I, and he has the same problem.

Another problem I have is that during heavy load on the first CD-drive, it can disappear! It did in the middle of the Mafia installation several times so I had to switch to the second drive, which caused a severe slowdown.

Do you need more power? cpu, ram?
Have you tried DMA?

CPU 1,2 Ghz
768 Mb RAM

So that's not the issue... as of DMA, I think it's on, but I don't really know. And what is it supposed to do?
