CD Drive problem

I just bought some Memorex 700MB 80 Min CD-RW's and they aren't being read on my cd-rw drive. Is it a hardware problem or is it just that the cd-rw's are defects?

What software are you using and are you formatting /or copying to disc.
If using only Win XP provided software , it does not really support CDRWs
