Yup. This is the error i get when i go to the event viewer after being booted from a bsod, which also has a error : bad pool caller or was it bad caller pool.(cant remember)

Any help is appreciated.:) :)

sorry for seeming to be thick, but what does that error have to do with defragging?

do you get that message WHILE defragging?

whooops! sorry for the lack of info. no, i didn't get this message. (Got it in the event viewer)

Instead i get a bsod in a middle of a defrag.(I get the error: bad pool caller or something like that).

After being booted out by the bsod thing. I run event viewer and got the error (the long list stated in my 1st post).

I suspect HD failure

You are aware of the extensive problems that Quantum had with thier harddrives, aren't you? That's why they no longer exist. I am assuming that you have partitioned the drive with NTFS so you really have no other options for defragmenting the drive outside of windows. You may try a 3rd party defragmenter.

You Might try....

I don't know the meaning of that error, but you might want to try "Diskeeper Workstation" Available Here: http://www.execsoft.com . It works Way Way better than Microsofts defrag and provides more interaction as well as information. They have a shareware version and also freeware called Diskeeper Lite. Another Fantastic Defrgger is called O & O Defrag but you'll have to look around for it
Diskeeper is run as a seperate app and isn't accessed through the MMC, plus it has a sweet "set it and forget it" feature. You'll never use Microsofts again.... .

I don't knoiw if this will help, but I thought it might be worth a try. I would also suggest running CHKDisk, but from the command line or in the recovery console.

Jelliot

I ran chkdisk or scandisk. And to no avail, still happens.

Anyway thanks for the suggestions. I'll try those 3rd party defragers.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
