i am running windows 2k, and have the setup disc for xp. but whenever i tell it to upgrade, it says"your current installation of windows is not a supported upgrade path.Setup cannot continue." how do i fix the problem?

what version of 2k?

2000 Pro to XP home is not a supported upgrade path. You can only upgrade 2000 Pro to XP Pro.

Just backup the stuff you want to keep like Favs and pics music and start with a clean install.

I would never advise on upgrading even if the OS path is supported.

Well that is good, because it is his only option.

as has been mentioned.. don't upgrade. format and reload.

While these are good suggestions, it's quite possible the XP Home Disc he has is an upgrade installation and may not be the full install. Quarters - as you can see in the attachment and what everyone else has said, not only should you not upgrade but you can't upgrade. If the CD is an upgrade install, you have no use for it. If it's a full install, follow the advice above and backup/do a clean install.

Upgrade versions are full versions. They just need a valid product license key for installation, they do not have to be installed on top of an existing installation.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
