Can I change FTP portson server

Hi Guys,

What is keeping me from changing ports on my FTP server. It is at the default 21, but do I have other choices? What other choices for port numbers do I have?

What particular software are you using? Most FTP server software has an option to specify the port number somewhere in the options.

I am using the G6FTP Server (bulletproof)

I tried changing to port 9902,just for a test, on my router as well I forwarded same port, but we could not logon. Changing back to 21, we were able to logon. Go figure. maybe it has something to do with my ISP?

that is weird. as long as it's not a port already used by something else, and i doubt that 9902 is...it should work.

you may be right - your isp may be teh debbil!

Heeter, friend of mine ran into a problem like that.

Turns out with his router he had to (and this is a vague memory):

Open the ports on the router
Forward the ports on the router.

In a specific order. Try it both ways since I'm senility challenged this morning.

yeah ... port forward the ports in your router then it will work ..

my router is linksys bfer41, something like that.

I never opened a port, just forwarded one.

I will check on that.
