Cable Modem

I have a RCA cable modem from Comcast. For some reason I can not turn it off any more. When I hit the power switch the power light goes off but the pc link and cable lights stay on. Every once in a while all the lights start blinking. The modem is still working ok. This happens even when the computer is off. Is normal for the modem to do this.

I have comcast, and no. That happened to me before too. It is a DHCP release renew on their end. By any chance are you splitting this signal? (ex: cable splitter, turns one line into two/three).

I have the same cable modem and I have had the sme problem but I just pull the power cord from the modem and that seems to fix any DHCP lockup. :D

Thanks for the replies! I have tried unplugging the modem. As for the splitter I have a splitter on the main line coming into the house. The cable to the computer runs straight from the splitter to the computer. It just started doing this the other day. Everything seems to be working ok so far. I was just wondering why it didn't shutdown all the way. I guess it could be something comcast is doing.

comcast's systems are old and they are having problems upgrading. Where are you located? Just wanted to know.

I bes in Philadelphia PA

I live in NJ . I think it may be something Comcast is doing. Cable internet was just made available in Feb. I'm sure their still fine tuning the network. The connection is still working so I guess it's ok.

Dude I think it is time for you to get out more :D Comcast resides in Philly. They do own the Comcast Spectracore Stadium in South Philly.
They also have stations all over the Delaware Valley. Their systems in fact are very new. They were planing on moving everyone off the @ Home service but had to move things up because @ Home went under. They are usually doing server upgrades and increasing their service area and do experience outages.

I work for them. I know where their local servers are. the truth is we are expanding too fast, and because of this service is being hurt. the demand is so high that we can barley keep up

Comcast just started offering cable internet in my area back in Feb. The system is all new. I'm sure their not done tweaking and working the bugs out. My modem is still connecting so I guess it ok. If I start having problems I can always call support .

Any of the SP crew still out there?
