Blah, I would have probably saved a few pennies for Nehalem and the new graphics cards coming out.

Plenty fast enough for now, but still money in the bank for my uber-mensch 'puter by end of the year 😀

Seriously considering an ASUS board really. Still domn't know about Intel or NVIDIA - I don't intend on going SLI but the onboard sound solution might be better.

Gigabyte or Abit.

X2 or Xfire. Quad core. It scales in step with processor speed. Intel chip, ATI graphics, some of the new AMD 9850's are running 3+ Ghz on air. On 2.7Ghz with my 3870 @ 885 core I can touch 9600 points on 3D06 and am playing HL2:EP2 at 1680X1050 all full high settings driver forced and in game forced with older generation hardware. A C2D running the same speed would get me a couple thousand higher.

I have a workstation motherboard (bought for a specific purpose) that has proven to be finicky with certain types of memory and I am not going to admit defeat to it 😀

Not sure how they are on price compared to other retailers. I'm in the States so no clue on how they are for ordering from Canada.

Edit: The Q6600 is sold at stock speed of 2.4Ghz.

Ah well, the QX9650 will do for now.

i will try and bench it tonight, see what it can do, mobo came with 2006 advanced.
