boot hang?

How can one look "back" and see what app/process caused a hang at boot up?
My system hangs sometime just before the screens goes from faded to bright. Hitting my reset will allow it to boot everytime (it never hangs twice in a row).
No errors are showing in event viewer. I guess the hang is before event viewer is lauched.
