ok ive had xp running on my system since i built it a few months ago and its been formated loads of times with no problems untill this morning when i desided to mess about with the partion sizes on my raid again

i have it set up to dual boot with win me and everything seems to install as normal untill it goes to start xp for the first time then it gives

stop: 0x0000007b (0xf794660,0x00000034,0x00000000,0x00000000)

my system is

athlon xp1700+
asus a7v266-e bios 1006
512mb crucial pc 2100
3 ibm 60gb 60gxp`s (2 in raid 0 useing the onboard prommis controller, one as backup)
teac 540e cd drive
hercules gf2mx
soudblaster live 5.1
realtek rtl8139(a) pci nic

it runs fine on me and will get all the way through installing xp without a hitch untill it tryes to start xp for the first time and its got me compleetly stumped as nothing has changed since the last time i formated

It looks like the articles i'm reading are pointing to drivers not being loaded correctly. Here's an article that list's several possible fixes... none of them are very easy but may offer a clue to you:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q122926

I'll look some more to see if I can find anything more definitive. Are you booting from the same drive, or are these drives mirrored, striped (how are you using them on your raid controller)

I think that article will lead you to the answer... it covers "Drive translation is not being performed or was changed."

2 of the drives are set up as striping which im booting from the other is set as primary master on the normal ide

ive tryed with the raid drivers from the asus cd i got with the board and some downloaded from asus`s site and both get the same error (ive had it working with both the drivers in the past)

thanks for looking loneman :)

I'm going to take a guess on this one. I think what's happening is when you resized your partitions you desyncronized them somehow (the partitions no longer match exactly). In a striping situtation I believe those babies need to be nats ass identical and for some reason they didn't resize correctly. I'm willing to bet the only way you're going to fix it is to scratch the striped drives and start over, making sure they are identical again.

finaly got it working after several more formats today and it apeard to be something to do with the updated install files you can download when your upgreading from ME, but i got no idea why. After running the dft erase disk on both drives to rule out any problems with them i was just changeing every variable on install one at a time and it worked :)

thanks for your help anyway lonman :)

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?

Impressed you have kept this alive this long EP! So many sites have come and gone. :(
