In my windows directory I have a bunch of files that are blue in colour and all file names start with a $ sign. What are they?
Thanks

These are compressed, backup files. Normally backup files for previouslly installed hotfixes.

blue = compressed
dollar sign = usually put in there to denote a hidden folder

Aren't files with names in blue just compressed ?

Edit: Beaten.

You're probably seeing the OS updates (patches) uninstall files. These are hidden by default so you must have hidden file view turned on. They're good to be there.

Edit: Beaten, twice. :p

funny how they make $ signs mean hidden, just like all the subsidies they get :rolleyes:

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
