Thieves broke into a music and movie retailer in Seattle on Sunday morning, stealing about $7.000 worth of merchandise, and - quite possibly - ending the high definition format war.

After all, when a thief thinks he won't be able to sell your product for pennies on the dollar, you may have a problem convincing ordinary consumers to fork over their hard earned cash at something close to retail price.

We'll let Mike Batt explain... he's a vice president for Silver Platters - an independent retailer with four stores in the Seattle area - and he's been quoted tonight in the Seattle Post Intelligencer:

"They seemed to know what they wanted."

What was missing?

"They basically took our whole Blu-ray section... genre didn't matter to them."

We called the store to verify this and were told that, yes, they were wiped out of Blu-ray Discs on Sunday, about seven thousand bucks worth.

We then asked if they sold both high definition formats, HD DVD and Blu-ray.

Once again, the answer was yes. But they still have a "good selection" of HD DVDs, as none were taken.

So there you have it, my friends... Blu-ray: backed by Sony, preferred by Blockbuster... and thieves.

Hah hah hah, now that's funny. How ironic, HD DVD could be the "Betamax" of 21st Century, that was created by Sony who now has Blue Ray. :p

Or they were PS3 owners, which would not surprise me.

It may sound petty, but I hope HD DVD wins the format wars just because I dislike Sony's style of marketing and crappy proprietary and overpriced products.

same like how i hate the apple iCrap...

Which is precisely what I think.

As is, I think in America, BR seems to be the dominant platform. Other places, it's more even.

I do wish both sides would simply come to a consensus and merge the formats. There is so much more money, time and resources being wasted in R&D that could have been used for other things, like producing cheaper players and thereby reducing the cost of the PS3 earlier.

Think about it devs, stop screwing the customer over.

Blu-Ray has already one, fyi

We don't even make the discs anymore because the studios don't want it.
We are even retooling our HD-DVD machine to make 1 layer Blu-Ray Discs.

I'm glad, because I wanted Sony to win, simply because I don't like the xbox 360 lol.

Sorry.

Blu-ray won't win until someone figures out how to get porn on it.

Quote/figures please? Last I knew nobody knew as the numbers vary based upon who you talk to. I think both are going to "lose" in the end, and would love to see a sensible 3rd "standard" come into the mix and put an end to this "war" stuff. So far consumers are losing it.

Im not giving any #s out...
You can believe be, or not...
I don't really care.
My father is the VP of CinRam, i recently visited their plant in PA...
