Blank Messages in Outlook

I seem to have an occasional problem with outlook Express 6 (comes bundled with XP). When the program is opened the part of the screen that usually shows the contents of the e-mail ( ie the important part!) remains ....BLANK! This is the same when you switch between Inbox, Outbox or whatever. Any idea why this happens? Or how to fix it?

Have you highlighted an email to read? That's all I can think of.
