Best Free Portable HDD Encryption Software

Hey guys,
I was wondering if any of you know of a software to encrypt my portable Hard Drives. I only have windows 7 ultimate on my desktop, my laptop and netbook have other versions of Windows 7, so I can't use Bitlocker I guess (unless you don't need bitlocker to access the information, only to encrypt it). So, I was wondering does anyone know of a free portable hdd encryption or password protecting software that won't leave me with my files gone?
I don't really care how strong the encryption, I'm not worried about hackers or anything like that just want a password to prevent the normal PC user from accessing the information.

Thanks a bunch guys, I do remember True Crypt come to think of it, but I had only used it to create a container instead of encrypting the whole drive. Gave it a whirl on an empty drive and it worked great, will try on the full drive tonight or tomorrow, just hope it doesn't corrupt all the stuff I have on it.

thanks for sharing this useful application... TrueCrypt is really a nice software to to do this job... well I've never used any kind of Encryption softwares before.....
