basic comparison between new and old system

Impressive memory improvements. The RAID works better than I expected almost doubled access speed.

What is your impression of gaming performance? Any detectable improvements? I've given up on an AMD upgrade for at least a year so that's pushing me towards Intel.

PS - I found out why my 2.8 gig P4 at work is dissappointing. FSB is only 533 with 333 mhz, CL 2.5 RAM so it's choked like an Athlon and not even running synchronously. Sigh...

actually the hdd scores are stock non-raid 0... I gave up on it for a bit.. gonna redo raid 0 over the weekend and check the scores then...

gaming performance is smoother.. I spose in part due to sse2... and in part due to higher frame rates...

d'top is noticeably smoother and my last system was no slouch... was perfectly capable before but some spotty performance in areas is now smoothed out...

gonna try out pcmark 2004 in a bit... see what happens :)

I just discovered overclocking bliss :D

/me gonna buy a new hsf tomorrow to be able to push the baby a little further...

oh boy... this thing is a beast :D

stock cooler/thermal pad ( ) 3.4 ghz... no probs...

should be able to push it a bit more later :D

I don't like the free PCMark series - not as comrehensive as Passmark Performance test. I can compare if you benchmark with this :)

my passmark performance rating was 482... first run with apps in background... I tried it v/s a baseline of amd 2000+ and intel 2.2ghz...

megaflops was around 232...

just for the heck of it I benched to see if there was a differnece in memory performance... and ok... the dual channel apparently does make an impact

dual channel score

note that the cpu score is lower than my previous run.. thats due to there being background apps open like when I benched passmark...

/me is all in all reasonably happy...

link does not exist... :(

hang on.. lemme see if I have a txt file somewhere...

meh... I have to rerun the tests :(

I'll do it later... I got other apps open right now...

I can hit 3.6GHz, stock cooler with Arctic Silver 3. However, games and benchmarks all freeze a couple minutes into it. 3.5GHz seems to work though.

yah problem is I am using stock cooler and thermal pad that came with the hsf

I don't want to push it too far right now with that pos pad on it...

monday I get my new batch of thermal paste so soon I hope it will be happy happy joy joy time for me

I must say though I am enjoying PAT quite a bit :D

Even if I do overclock, no matter how much, my performance stays the same. My RAM only runs at optimal timings at 200FSB. Anything over that, the ram timings decrease, and the increase in CPU just evens the performance back up.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?

Impressed you have kept this alive this long EP! So many sites have come and gone. :(

Just did some crude math and I apparently joined almost 18yrs ago, how is that possible???
