Back up entire hard drive running XP

How the hell does this one work then? I have tried using Ghost and Max Blast to do a back up of my work HD. It copies, but when I try and boot from the NEW copy of the drive it doesnt boot.

Is this to do with microsofts hard ware (pain in the ass) detection and activation system?

If anyone has a working method for doing a full back up (image or otherwise) of a HD to another HD and with a windows XP os, I would be most greatful to hear the tales of how on earth you do it.

Kind Regards
David

could be to do with activation
but could also be due to some files not copying? like boot sector files etc

It has worked on all other OS including 2000, so I dont think it is boot sector, but the activation (as said above) is what I feel it might be, I really need to know if anyone has had any success with making a backup of an entire HD running XP...

Cheers again all
Dave

what you'll have to do, is after you've done the full copy, you have to boot from the windows recovery cd...do a fixmbr and a fixboot

if that fails..try a repair install from the cd.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
