Avatar and Login

I can't seem to put up a custom avatar. Every time I go to User CP> Edit Options, I don't get anything to change my avatar. If I click on Change Avatar, I get redirected to a login page and from there on, even if I enter in my correct username and pass, I still get redirected to the same login page. I'd have to go back to the main page, click on 'Login'. Only then will I be able to re-login successfully. Help?

P.S. Cookies are fine; I see my username at the upper-lefthand corner of the main page.
