My new power supply (Hiper) has an auxillary power supply cable, but no instructions as to what this cable is for, any advice please.

It is a fairly thick cable with a 6 pin plug attached. In the Hiper Manual, which is pretty basic, it is described as :-
Auxiliary power connector (6 pin) (Pentium 4)

i think some Pentium boards require 2 power connections

P4 requires an extra 4-pin connector apart from the standard ATX connector. What that 6-pin is for I have no clue

Are you sayin that the reqular atx and the 4 pin (12v) both get connected to the mobo, because I only use the 4 pin. Am I doing it wrong?

Nope, if it works fine.

Some boards do require two connecters, although I saw this on dual CPU systems...not solo.

And it works?? I'll be damned. I'd plug in the ATX as well since the PSU is rated for currents on each voltage. If you pull all current through the 12V you're not using the PSU's full potential.

I'll hooke them both up in a day or so and see if it makes a difference.

heh. Yer right too :)

My Asus mobo has a regular atx connector, a p4 4 pin connector, and in case you don't have the p4 4 pin connector on your mobo it has a regualr 4 pin connector.

must be a higher watt power supply. the extra 6 pin connector (has all red and black wires going to it i believe) is for some some server motherboards. it covers the added draw of all the bells and whistles :)

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
