Auto update, have to restart, darnit!

I have to agree with madmatt, WSUS is the cat's meow if properly implemented and maintained. While I have seen you have experienced some difficulty, combined with this forum, other internet resources, and hopefully co-workers you should be able to set it up properly. That, combined with the fact that it's free, should point to being your best solution.

The few problem in WSUS is
1.administrator have no control of exact amount of bandwidth to be transfer through network.

2.Update file size is big

3.It is going out dated.

4.After installation to client, it need to restart

5.Update is shown installed at client in WSUS but actually it is not.

1.) That is network related. Regardless, WSUS uses BITS technology.

2.) All patch management systems will use the same "big" file.

3.) It isn't outdated.

4.) You would have to restart with any other patch management system including Microsoft Update and Windows Update. The patches won't be applied until you restart the computer because they normally replace files currently in use, hence the reason for the restart.

5.) I can't explain that one. There must be some thing wrong with the intergration.

I am sorry you are having so many difficulties with WSUS. You are entitled to your opinion, however, any patch management system is going to be very similar to WSUS and require the same files and a restart to complete the installation of the patch(es).

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
