Auto logout after certain time

My family members often forget to log out, and I'm fed up. Is it possible after the computer being in idle after a certain amount of time the user currently logged on gets (a) kicked off [logged off] or (b) quick user logoff

Any applications out there that can do this?

I had it when it was freeware and it would shutdown your computer once the cpu or net traffic was idle for a certain period...they may have upgraded it to allow for logoff...

Nope, looks like that isn't going to do the job, as it only shuts down your pc.

Isn't there a screensaver which forces you to logon to come out of it?

use the screensaver, i do it for my dad because he always forgets. just right click your desktop + choose properties then the screensaver tab, there is an option there 2 use the welcome screen once the screensaver is on, just set the screensaver for 5 mins or sumin + when someone moves mouse etc to end screensaver it will be @ welcome screen, it doesn't log them out btw it jus uses user switchin. cheak the atachment.

I think you can use task scheduler. Create a new scheduled task to shutdown.exe in C:\Windows\system32.
You will however have to create a task for each user and you need their username and password. If there is no password set you'll have to enable running scheduled tasks without password in the registry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SYSTEM\ CurrentControlSet\ Control\ Lsa set the value for limitblankpassworduse to 0 (that's a zero).


Open Control Panel - Scheduled Tasks
Add scheduled task
the wizard starts, click next
browse to C:\Windows\system32\shutdown.exe
choose a name for the task and click Perform this task - daily or anything else (we are going to change this later anyway)
click next and then change the proposed start time a little bit so that it will not shut down immediately
click next and enter user name and password
click next and check 'Open advanced properties for this task, when I click Finish', click Finish
In the advanced properties on the Task tab next to Run: add parameters to the command so that it looks like
C:\Windows\system32\shutdown.exe -l -t 10 -f (This will log off the user after ten seconds, be careful with the f switch, it forces to close programs whether the work is saved or not, it may cause a family crisis)
Change to the Schedule tab
click the arrow on the Schedule Task drop down menu and click When idle, adjust the time at 'Schedule Task When Idle'
Click OK

dam what a load of fuss

my way works quick + easy, it only switches the user to the welcome screen after a set period of time rather than shutdown the comp like your way will

Henyman, you didn't read it . The l-switch logs the user off, it doesn't shutdown the computer.
