What is important is to know the specs of your CPU amd and intel are not the same and not all AMD's are the same you need to know what your cpu can take mine is set to what I stated above but I always have a constant eye on the temps next to my clock I have a little ap that runs and show me all my info fan speeds , rmp's temp, all my voltages ect ..... my pc idles at 38-39c and climbs to 45-47 under stress and that I mean under full load for extended periods of time I loop benchmarks run performance tests as I am always tweaking it and messing around ... motherboard moniter is a good ap for gathering the temps and info

..mine is from epox my board maker :)

I use Winbond Doctor on mine (Abit Mobo)

System shutoff = 60 deg C
CPU shutoff = 70 deg C

(visual/audible warnings before)

My system runs at 32 deg C
My CPU runs at 38 deg C

Yes forgot to mention the I have alarms set if it starts to get warm lower limit alarm rings in at 60C so I have plenty of time to react but like I said I am always eyeing it anyways :)

I cant remember at what temp the warning alarm goes off at, but like youself I am always monitoring (drawback of being an engineer, I suppose).

Happy monitoring

Well hot dang I dunno what is different today but I decieded to edge it up a little more and see how far I can go ... seems for some reason since I installed the new 44.03 dets I am able to get higher fsb << is that possible ? I dunno but I got my little 1800+ @

To answer the original question, I would say that it depends on your heatsink and fan. A stock AMD fan / heatsink would keep me at around 53 C. I would get worried around 60 C.

However, I then switched to a Swiftech heatsink with an 80 mm Thermaltake Smart Fan II and now I'm at 38 C, even under load. I get worried slightly when this machine hits 45 C for that reason (luckily it never has).

the temps from one board to another can very greatly. something as simple as if the thermal sensor in the cpu socket is touching the bottom of the cpu or not can have a huge difference.

this is one reason why some people claim 35° under full load and others are in the upper-40's idle. i would try not to compare your temps to any one else's unless your board reads directly from the themal diode embedded in the athlon xp cpu.

[edit] check out my post here.

will could you recomend me a temperature? my computer is an AMD athlon 900mhz. and i think its usually around 35C when i start it.

I would say that 60 degrees C would be approx cut off for Athlon XPs and maybe 50 -55 C for Pentium P4. with above standard heatsinks and Arctic Silver.
Most mobos have ability to set this cut off in the Bios.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?

Impressed you have kept this alive this long EP! So many sites have come and gone. :(

Just did some crude math and I apparently joined almost 18yrs ago, how is that possible???
hello peeps... is been some time since i last came here.
