This is the board I'm considering buying.. I'm looking at the DX model for Serial ATA..

Regarding RAM, I've heard that PC3200 provides insignificant performance gains over PC2700.. is that true?

How is the BIOS for the board? Does Asus provide good updates?

How stable is the board in general? How about overclocking?

I am also looking at scoring a Barton 2500+ processor.. any insights to this? should I go with an XP instead?

thx

outstanding board. asus is good with bios updates, too. and yes, pc3200 doesn't give you much over pc2700. and it's actually slower in some cases than low-latency pc2700. and pc2700 (333mhz) would run synchronous with a 333mhz bus processor, giving you the best performance.

thx

barton has twice as much l2 cache which will make a noticeable performance difference...

I think you would probably not go wrong with a barton 2500+ :)

price point should be around the 2600+

BTW, you bring up an interesting question. What kinds of processors can be put in an A7N8X (since I have one)? You mention Barton. What is that?

Thanks...

Melon

I just bought the a7n8x and am waiting for it to get here...impatiently might I add. I read (i think) that it supports up to an XP 2800+

melon, Barton is a new configuration of XP processor.. it has 128K L1 and 512K L2 for a total of 640K cache.. the entry level 2500+ runs at 1833Mhz.. this information I found on the web at this page. strangely enough I can't seem to find any information on Barton on AMD's own site.. it's probably there somewhere but I'm too stoned to find it.. ;) if anyone can find the info please post a link here..

In case you didn't know

make sure you get two sticks of ram rather than 1 or else the nForce chipset is going to waste.

I love my A7N8X it's a great board, and I'd recomend it to anyone, it'll take any socket A cpu you can throw in it. Asus is rather good with BIOS updates so you need not worry about that, the current final version is 1001G (the original shipping one was 1001C)

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
