Any firewall that supports fast user switching?

Hi all, I am currently using Sygate personal firewall on Winxp Pro. It does not support fast user switching. So when I switch users the computer will occasionally stop accessing the internet. I had the same problem with Zone Alarm. So is there any firewall, preferably free, that supports fast user switching? Thanks in advance!

never tried fast user switching with my kerio...I wonder...I think there's a tweak to keep your internet connection active while using differant user accounts...you probably have to use that

Hi Perris. The connection will be active if I am not using a firewall. I don't remember if it stays active if I use Winxp SP2's firewall. I do know that if I disable Sygate's then I have the internet connection again. And Sygate's website says that it does not currently support fast user switching. Of course, the simple solution is to not use fast user switching. However, with my wife and kids also using the computer, with their own accounts, it can be a pain to log off to let someone else on for awhile before going back on.

did you try running it in both user logins ??

Hmm, I use Zone Alarm and fast user switching works just fine.

That's funny. Zone Alarm would do the same thing that Sygate is doing. That's why I switched to Sygate. And then it did the same thing and I found out it doesn't support Fast Switching.

I have 4 user accounts. Sygate will work fine. But if I switch over to another account without logging out of the one that is being used I can't always access the internet. If I shut down Sygate I can again access the internet. It doesn't matter if I set Sygate to allow all. It still won't work. :disappointed:

hmmm ... I never really had multiple users on my pc, just multiple pc's on my network. I am guessing that in order to get it to work you would have to set up some type of rules with it. I could be wrong also .. That is the first thought I would have for it ..

Maybe it's my setup. When I first built the computer I was using an older cdrom drive that you couldn't boot from. So I ended up installing Winxp from dos. When I first installed Zone Alarm I was having a problem under the accounts that were set for limited user. Zone Alarm would use up all the resources under those accounts. When I set those accounts to administrator the problem went away.

I'm pretty sure Kerio supports FUS. I know for a fact that Windows Firewall in SP2 does. :)

Then I'll need to give Kerio a try. If I still have problems I'll know for a fact the something else is causing the problem.

Installed Kerio this morning. Didn't have too much time to use it. But I did switch users and it was working fine. Thanks for the help!

my opinion, it's the very best free firewall, small profile, excellant security, especially "system security", which you'll have to get used to but becomes something you'll count on

Well Zone Alarm does permit "fast user switching", but it could have been that you were using an older version. If Kerio is doing the job for you then stick with it. Otherwise try downloading the newest version of Zone Alarm.

I think I'll just stay with Kerio. I know it works and from what people here have said it does a good job. I don't want to uninstall it, install Zone Alarm and maybe still have problems with it.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
