I turned on my computer to get a VERY loud beep, it didnt sound like the normal beep from the system speaker...then the computer shut off... any help? Rep points for those who do. the sound seems to be coming from my PSU.

hmm, check ur motherboard catalog for beeps, was the loud beep a long lasting one?

it said power supply as well...dammit, ok, thanks.

know how you feel man... if you are getting beeps from your PSU you must have something special for a PSU! Are you sure that's not just where your case/mobo spkr is?

Do you know what make your PSU is or more about your machine, like make/model for us to get a handle?

check if all the wires are plugged in good and if your graphics card is plugged/responding good in good, you can't have a beep coming out of anywhere else but from the tower speaker, power supplies doesn't have a speaker neither do mobos

this was alot louder than any normal system beep though. it was a cheap PSU. came with the case.

maybe u need to get a non-cheap PSU........lol ;)
but seriously beeping psu? ok i know about beeping ups when there is power outage or something but a PSU.........hmmmm.... maybe you have a fluctuating power source, do you use a surge protector?

yeah i do use a surge protector.

good.

man this is weird, is their certain situations which cause this problem?

and what in a PSU makes a beeping noise? ive opened up many PSU, they have transformers, capacitor a fan......thats about it nothing to make any beeping sounds, im sure its ur mobo.

no, i just turn the computer on, it makes almost a screaching noise, and then shuts off. I have a PSU on the way now...so hopefully that will fix the problem. I will give you rep points anyway.

yeah thats what i was ganna say brad, get a good psu, which did you get? i think your frikkin problem is now solved:p good luck, and thanks for the rep point btw

The PSU can "beep" if there is something seriously wrong with it, but not because it has a speaker or anything. More like it has some short circuit, but it's to small to cause the fuse to cut the power. So if the PSU beeps at all, it's probably serioulsy broken.

maybe you should have tested the psu on a friends computer first?.......anyway man good luck and tell us how it goes, and thanx for the rep ;)

i would guess a ups backup, but other than that, i have no clue.

UPS has nothing to do with this, but thanks for trying.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
